Jonathan (Jack) George Skakum

Jack was born in Gimli, Manitoba and as a young boy he and his family moved from Fraserwood, Manitoba to Winnipeg's North End for a time, then on Jefferson Avenue for many years. He attended Victory School, Jefferson Junior High School and Garden City Collegiate.

Survived by his loving wife Ann, daughter Larissa, son-in-law David Boning, grandchildren Merritt and Esme and brother Brian Skakum. He was pre-deceased by his mother, Teenie in 1989, father, John in 1999, sisters, Judy Sedleski in 1998, Linda Gray in 1999 and niece Christie Hamerla in 2001. Jack continued to enjoy relationships with his two brother-in-laws, Ernie Sedleski (Mona) and Barry Gray as well as his nephews Warner Main and Rob Sedleski (Cindy) and nephew-in-law Bert Hamerla and son Parker. Jack also considered Ann's family his own.

Work accomplishments include at least 10 years each at the following companies: Coca-Cola driver/sales, Hudson's Bay Wholesale/sales, Core-Mark Distributors/sales and the Seven Oaks School Division/bus driving. He was particularly passionate about his work as a 'special needs' bus driver.

Jack's favourite pastimes included camping, fishing, golfing and traveling. It didn't matter if there were any fish on the line, he just liked being outdoors and enjoying nature. He was always the first in the neighborhood to get to the lawn care in the springtime. Jack was particularly proud of his family and truly enjoyed spending time with them and reveling in their accomplishments.

Jack made friends easily. He was compassionate, honest, generous, loyal, dedicated, loving and caring. Even through the toughest days of illness, he maintained his sense of humour and pride. We will miss a wonderful partner of 50 years, a great Dad and a loving grandfather/Bumpba.

We would like to say a big THANK YOU to the many supporters, including family, friends and co-workers during Jack's illness.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at 10:30 am at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street, West St. Paul, Manitoba.

Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
