With heavy hearts we announce that on February 19, 2017, Sylvia Goska was embraced by our Heavenly Father while surrounded by those she laughed with, lived for and loved.

Her amazing legacy will be cherished forever by her husband of over 60 years, Ed, her daughter Char, son Michael (Mary), grandchildren Kyli (Kris), Karina (boyfriend Jordan) and Matthew; brother Alex (Loretta) and a large extended family including nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends, too numerous to mention.

Sylvia was the youngest of six children born to Lucia and Michael Nafostowicz on Ukranian Christmas Eve, January 6, 1934, at their family home on Mountain Avenue. On May 26, 1956, Sylvia married the love of her life and soul mate, Ed. Although he was a “cocky” guy, he won her heart by taking her “out to nice places.” Those places multiplied by their travels and included many trips to her favourites, Maui and Mexico, with friends and family. Endless and wonderful memories were also created at the cabin at Lee River Falls, where friends and family have gathered over lifetimes.

Sylvia also enjoyed bowling and did so for almost 40 years. For many years she worked at Wilson’s Stationery until she started her best job in life, full time wife and mother. Throughout her life she took care of not only her family, but her community through St. Gerard Parish, the Catholic Women’s League and Perogy Pinchers. For years she gave communion at Bethania Nursing Home and Concordia Place. Sylvia's passion to help others and her endless love for all led her to volunteer for over 20 years with Cancer Care Manitoba. In a sad twist of fate, it was cancer that took her life, but certainly not her fun and feisty spirit. That spirit will live on forever and is missed already by all whose lives she touched.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Concordia Hospital and everyone who extended compassionate care to Sylvia. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to Cancer Care Manitoba.

Funeral Mass will be held on Friday February 24, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Gerard Parish, 45 Foster Street, Winnipeg. Interment to follow at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street, West St. Paul, MB.
