After a courageous struggle, Norman lost his battle with liver disease and found peace in his eternal rest.
He is survived by his loving wife Patty who was his constant companion, caregiver and best friend; son Michael Zest and daughter-in-law Tara of Edson, Alberta; daughter Chantelle Zest(Sebastian); daughter-in-law Tanya (Paul) Misseghers. He was so proud of his four grandsons whom brought him great joy, Evan, Ethan, Aiden and Maxton. Also mourning his loss are his siblings Donnie (Debbie), Lori (Dave) Graham, and Deb (Vic) Peters; mother-in-law Lil Atamanchuk; brothers-in-law Dennis and Jim Atamanchuk, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents Clarence (2009) and Margaret (1993) and his two brothers Raymond (2008) and Douglas (2012).
Norman possessed a caring and generous heart, enjoying each day even though his disability held him back from participating in an active life. His sense of humour never failed him even in his weakest moments and we will all miss his one-liners that continually entertained us. He was a source of knowledge, passionate in his beliefs, stubborn in his point of view but always ending with a shrug of his shoulders and a whatever attitude, never letting opinions get in the way of relationships.
Through the years he served in the Armed Forces, was a gifted hairdresser for a short period and eventually became a boilermaker, working for CN Railways until his health forced him into early retirement in 2008.
The family would like to thank the staff at St. Boniface Hospital who took care of Norman over the past weeks, especially the Palliative Care Unit who ushered him into Glory with such compassion and love.
Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street, West St. Paul, MB with viewing prior to service.
If friends so desire, donations can be made in Norman’s memory to a charity of one’s choice.
