Mary Quick
(Nee Maksymyk)
July 21, 1923 – September 30, 2013

It is with much sorrow we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and auntie, Mary (Baba) Quick on September 30, 2013 at the Seven Oaks Hospital.

Predeceased by her loving husband, Bill Quick (1995), son Larry (2012), brothers, Walter, Tony, and daughter-in-law Dawn Arbeau. She leaves to mourn her cherished family, daughter Isabel and Richard Kurylo, grandchildren Lisa and Kevin Andrews, Tyler and Kaylee Kurylo, Brendin and Kristy Arbeau, and Tammy Place. Great grandchildren, Gavin and Zachary Kurylo, brother Mike and Katie Maksymyk. Sister-in-laws Jean and Isabel Maksymyk, many nieces, nephews and friends, and long time good friend Doris Monk.

Mary was born in Komarno, MB on July 21, 1923. She moved to Winnipeg at 17 years old. She met Bill Quick and they married on October 15, 1944. Together they owned and operated Bill’s Quick Lunch then worked together at the Canadian Wheat Board where they catered many functions. From there Mary went on to run another large cafeteria for the CNIB in the Canada Manpower Building, where she received several letters of commendation for her hard work and success at improving the quality of food and morale of the CNIB staff and employees.

Leaving CNIB, Mary went on to run a cafeteria for MacMillan Bloedel, where she made many friends and continued long lasting friendships after her retirement.

Mary and Bill enjoyed several years of travelling; they were married for over 50 years

Mary (Baba) continued her love of cooking and baking, by passing down traditional recipes to her granddaughter Lisa. Baba loved being around her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as they gave her much joy.

After losing her son she remained heartbroken. When she became unable to live on her own, she moved into St. Joseph’s Residence where she resided until the time of her passing.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at St Joseph’s for the excellent care, kindness and compassion to Mary, it was truly appreciated.

Funeral services will be held at Glen Eden Funeral Home & Cemetery, 4477 Main St., Monday, October 7, 2013 at 2:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.

To Those I Love and Those Who Love Me

When I am gone, release me let me go.
I have so many things to see and do,
You mustn't tie yourself to me with tears;
Be happy that we had so many years.

I gave you my love, you can only guess
How much you gave to me in happiness.
I thank you for the love you have shown,
But now it's time I travelled on alone.

So grieve a while for me, if grieve you must;
Then let your grief be comforted by trust.
It's only for a little while that we must part,
So bless the memories within your heart.

I won't be far away, for life goes on;
So if you need me, call and I will come.
Though you can't see or touch me,
I'll be near, And if you listen
with your heart, you'll hear,
All of my love around you soft and clear.

And then, when you must come this way alone,
I'll greet you with a smile and say
"Welcome Home".

Rest peacefully momma, give dad and Larry hugs and kisses I love you and will miss dearly
