Peacefully after a long battle with Parkinson's and Lewy Body Dementia, Joan passed away on Thursday, December 8, 2016 at Middlechurch Personal Care Home.

Joan will be lovingly remembered by husband, Jack, children, Darlene (Joe) Poplawski, Larry (Tammi) Dick, and Donna Jean (Dave Jamieson) Dick, grandchildren, Derek (Krista), Wade, Brent Poplawski, great-grandson, Chase, sister Bernice Cable as well as other family members.

Joan was predeceased by her parents, 3 brothers, sisters-in-law, mother-in-law and infant son and daughter.

Joan was born in Winnipeg and raised in Vivian, MB. She moved to Transcona, graduated from High School and began her employment with Eaton's of Canada. She went on to other jobs and began working with the Bank of Montreal for 21 years where she met and enjoyed new friends that became a big part of her life.

When Joan was young, she played the accordion for the Laurie's barn dances in Vivian. She was an avid bowler, enjoyed golf, loved roller skating, and even tried roller blading in her 60's. Joan enjoyed attending Blue Bomber football and Winnipeg Jets games and of course all of her grandsons games from their childhood up to their junior and college hockey. She spent endless hours contributing to East Elmwood Community Centre by fund raising, organizing, driving children to and from events and assisted in developing the East Elmwood Roadrunner Cookbook. Countless hours were spent sewing baton costumes for parades and competitions over the years. Mom battled and won the fight with breast cancer and went on to volunteer time with pre and post-operative breast cancer patients. She was a wonderful cook and entertainer, loving the family gatherings and pool parties. In retirement years, Jack and Joan spent 12 years in Arizona and made numerous friends always stopping in Las Vegas where Mom would be 'Lady Luck'.

Mumzy was a kind considerate soul and always thought of others before herself. Her dedication to her family and grandchildren was paramount.

In preparation for this day, Mom wrote these words. "The love of my life was my family. You have no idea how much all of you have meant to me - each in a special way. Thank you for enriching my life. Without you all, I would have never been complete. How I loved you and will continue to "wherever I am". Besides my family, my life was fulfilled with some great friends. To all of you, thank you for allowing me to share so much with you. Just a thought - the next raindrop on your window just might be me, dropping in for a visit!"

In lieu of flowers, friends may make a donation in Joan's memory to Parkinson's and Lewy Body Dementia or a charity of choice.

The family wish to thank the staff at Middlechurch Home for their care and compassion.
