Peacefully early Easter Sunday morning, our beloved Mother, Grandmother, great-Grandmother, sister, and aunt, Jennie passed away quietly in her sleep.

She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by her children Terry (Donna-Lynne), Natalie (Gilbert), Darryl (Cathy); her grandchildren Paul (Joy), Christie (Mike), Samantha, and Lauren; her great-grandchildren Blane, Drew, Jake, and Max; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She will also be missed by her sister Elizabeth Genik; and brothers Peter (Dorothy), and Steve (Ellen).

Jennie was predeceased by her parents Peter and Albina Torbiak; her husband Bill; her brother Danny; and brother-in-law Connie Genik.

Mom was born in Chatfield, MB and was raised in Poplarfield. She attended school and helped her parents in their country store. Before graduating high school, she was selected to teach in rural Manitoba due to a shortage of teachers at the time. She relished the experience. She went on to complete commercial college and worked in an office setting where she eventually became head stenographer in the pathology department at the Misericordia Hospital.

The family turned toward business and Jennie not only became an active participant, but was demonstratively very astute, proficient, and was successful in every business project she undertook. She had an innate knowledge about many things, be it restaurants, hotels, or apartment blocks. Her ability to connect with people was one of her greatest gifts. Some of those ventures were challenging for a woman of her time but her strength and her tenacity made her a true “Trail Blazer” for women in every sense of the word.

Despite her busy schedule, Jennie was most proud, supportive, and nurturing of her family. Sunday dinners with Grandma were not to be missed and will forever hold a tender place in our hearts. The special holiday occasions and dinners where the extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins who came to Auntie Jennie’s will forever illicit a smile and warm memories as we remember the delicious food, all the activities, and the laughter as the families reconnected.

Jennie was in every sense an indomitable force for good in this world. Her wisdom, knowledge (she devoured books), and common sense were treasured by the entire family. Every family member, at one time or another, would come to ask Jennie for her opinion and advice on virtually every topic, dealing with life and how best to live it. Her counsel and guidance and extreme generosity will be missed.

Our family would sincerely like to thank Doctors Terry Babick and Andrea Babick and all the staff at St. Joseph’s Residence for the diligent, compassionate, wonderful care they so selflessly provided our mother during her stay.

As per her wishes, Jennie’s remains have been cremated and will be joined in a niche with her husband Bill. A celebration of Jennie’s life will be held Friday, April 8, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street, West St. Paul, MB.

In lieu of flowers, if so desired, a donation may be made in Jennie’s name to St. Joseph’s Residence, 1149 Leila Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R2P 1S6, or to a charity of your choice.

Dearest Mother
Your kind heart, your beautiful spirit, your warm smile, and soft hugs, your soothing words will forever be in our hearts.
We love you Mom.
Rest in peace.

Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenedenmemorial.ca
