Janice Sonja Virkus (nee Glugosh)

October 31st, 1937 – December 02, 2012

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and friend after a brief battle with cancer. Janice is predeceased by her husband Alvar, daughter Amber, mother and father Josephine and Joseph and brothers Jerry and Jake. She leaves behind to mourn her son Jason (Samantha) and daughter Alysa as well as her grandchildren Tyler, Sydney and Easton. She also leaves behind her beloved 3 dogs and 3 cats.

Janice was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1937 at the St. Boniface General Hospital. She was raised in Winnipeg where she lived until meeting and marrying her husband Al in 1966. They remained in the Winnipeg area until the mid-1970’s when they moved to St. Andrews and spent the remainder of their days.

Janice’s children and grandchildren fondly remember “Ganny” as being an avid sports fan. Playing ball, bowling and curling right through to the beginning of her illness and only stopping as her body dictated. They also remember many road trips and family times (too many to mention) and many life lessons including the finer art of fixing a great drink and the utmost importance of fresh ice.

A celebration of Janice’s life will be held at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to either Winnipeg Cancer Care or the Winnipeg No Kill Animal Shelter.

Glen Eden Funeral Home
338-7111
