It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mom, Oma and sister, Helga on February 22, 2017, at the age of 84.

She is survived by her sons Dieter Krueger and his wife Darlene and Eric Krueger and his wife Joanne along with their children Holly, Ben and Monica, her brother Harry Henke and her step daughter Ingeborg Boyens and husband Gregg Shilladay.

Helga was predeceased by Martin Krueger, her first husband and Hans Boyens, her second husband along with her brothers, Leonard Henke and Kris Henke and her sisters Annette Wagner (Philip) and Ada Bismayer (John).

Helga was born in Poland on January 22, 1933 and moved to Winnipeg with her family in January, 1949. She met and married her first husband, Martin in August, 1956 and celebrated 27 wonderful years of marriage. After some time alone, Helga met and married Hans Boyens in May, 1992 and enjoyed another 21 years of happy marriage.

She was very proud of her sons and all their accomplishments and adored her grandchildren who she spoiled and spent many wonderful times together. She was always wanting to make everyone happy and tried to put a smile on everyone’s face by saying “smile, it costs you nothing”. Highlights over the years include extensive travelling with the family throughout the US, Mexico and Germany, organizing family get togethers and getting together with the many friends she made over the years. Other highlights included going to the cottage on weekends where she would go mushroom and blueberry picking, gardening and entertaining friends and family who came up for the weekend. She also loved to cook, hosting many birthdays, Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations. One thing was for certain, there was never a shortage of food. Amongst her specialties were roulade, noodles with breadcrumbs, steak, corn and her famous pancakes that was always a treat for her son’s friends who could never get enough of them.

A big thank you to the staff at Poseidon Care Centre who attended to her needs and provided the care and support she needed over her final years. Special thanks to Sharlee and Melba who always went above and beyond.

You are in a better place now, no more worries but our memories of you will always be with us. We promise “we won’t overdo it”.
