In his 97th year, after a long, full and happy life encircled in Love, our Dad, Grandpa and Great-Grandpa, went to be with our Lord and Saviour.

He is now reunited with the Love of his Life, Lil, and daughter Beverly Nicol. Dad was also predeceased by his parents, John and Elizabeth Schreyer; two brothers, Tony Schreyer and Henry Schreyer (Honor), and the numerous Schreyer/ Gottfried/ and Baker clans.

Left to mourn his passing is his son Brian (Nancy); son in law Jim Nicol (Debra); son Greg; daughter Cheri (Don Kasianchuk) and daughter Darlene (Kelly Allardyce). He also leaves his grand and great grandchildren: Ryan Schreyer (Terry); Jodi Cloutier (Denis) - children Natalie and Liam; Jimmy Nicol (Francesca) - children Mackenzie and Jack; Penni Nicol (Mitch) - children Kamryn and Grace; Clayton Kasianchuk (Natasha) children Clayton Adam and Austin ; Jay Allardyce (Kelly) and Danny Allardyce (Sachelle).

Also to mourn his passing, are his dear Aunts Rose Rostek; Lena Kuntz; and Uncle Joe Gottfried; sister Eleanor (Don Thomas); sister-in-law Lillian Schreyer; brother Len Schreyer (Elsie); brother the Rt. Honorable Edward Schreyer (Lily); sister in law Victoria Baker; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, godchildren, friends, and neighbours - many of whom he also considered family, especially Harvey Dann, who continually visited with Dad, taking him on excursions to ball games, visiting former customers or just inspecting the grain fields - you were his other son.

Dad was born in Meleb, Manitoba but grew up in the Ladywood/Cromwell area near Beausejour, MB. He was the eldest in his family and worked very hard not only on the family farm but also operating a Pulp and Paper "Bush" camp in the late 30's and 40's. On July 8, 1945 he married the girl next door, Lil Baker and they shared a wonderful marriage of 67 years together.

Mom and Dad's married life began in the Bush camp but in 1946 they moved to an old farm house at Lots 13 & 14 in Parkdale (RM of St. Andrews). Here would be the start of their farm operation, beginning very small with some livestock and grain, then growing over the years to become over 4000 acres of land, in the St. Andrews, Petersfield and Rockwood area. It was on the original homestead in Parkdale however, that in 1953, Mom and Dad built the house of their dreams. Over the next 51 years their home would become the hub of family and community activities, as they raised their children and shared in life. They billeted teachers, farm exchange students and also students of St. Benedict's Academy. There were "huge" celebrations and meetings of every kind held in their home, yard, shop and quonset: barn dances, Massey corn roasts, Christmas Eve and other holiday gatherings, BBQ's, anniversaries, reunions, birthdays, St. Joseph's picnics, weddings, Safe Grads, to name just a few - their home was an "open door" and many a person they came to know, and were loved.

In all of their endeavours, Mom was a partner with Dad. Dad had the entrepreneur spirit in him and besides farming, sold "Wear Ever" Pots & Pans from 1947 to 1951. For a time in the 50's Dad also sold Monarch and Dominion Life Insurance. Then in 1955, he began selling Massey Harris Equipment for Robinson Farm Supplies, which would then become Winnipeg Massey Harris Ferguson Farm Equipment. He then, in 1956, became a dealer for Massey-Fergusson, which he began with his brother Len, as Schreyer Brothers Farm Equipment. The business was first located at 301 Princess Street in Winnipeg and the machinery repairs were done on the homestead in St. Andrews. In the early 60's, Dad and Mom became owners of the business and Schreyer Equipment was born. The business was moved and new buildings built at 3176 Main Street in the RM of West St. Paul. Then in 1975 Dad retired the business to his sons. However, Dad's business activities were not over. At the age of 73, Dad purchased a meat plant which became G.B. Schreyer Meats, known to have one of best tasting kulbasa. Dad ran the business until his early 80's, when it ceased operation. Throughout his years Dad while managing his companies and still farming, was also involved with numerous other organizations. Just a few of these were: Nu-Way Distributors, the Manitoba Farm Machinery Board, MALFERDA, MAST, and The Board of Revision. He also ran in two provincial elections.

However, Dad's greatest attribute was in public service, by way of education and through his strong commitment to rural schools. In 1948, Dad was first elected to the St. Andrews Consolidated School District which would become the Lord Selkirk School Division. In time he would become the oldest and longest standing member of an elected assembly, having served for over 53 Consecutive Years, in many capacities such as Board Chair. For his dedicated service, the School Library at the Regional High School is named in his honour. In 2001, Dad sadly resigned from being a board member when he moved out of the catchment area. Both Mom and Dad were pioneers in building the Roman Catholic Parish Community of St. Theresa's in West St. Paul. As well as, both serving as members of the choir and other ministries within the church. Dad amazingly, up to the age of 90 years, volunteered at Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg, receiving a service award for this. Dad received many recognitions over his lifetime, but what was most significant and something he was so humbled to receive is "all three" of the Queen's Jubilee medals - Silver, Gold and Diamond, for his service to his community.

On the leisure side of things, when Dad was younger he enjoyed playing baseball both in Cromwell and in Parkdale. In his 50's, became a member of the St. Joseph's Men's Club where he bowled twice a week. Dad also golfed on the occasional basis, but mostly he would take pleasure in playing cards, which meant any type of game but mainly cribbage, having once got a 29 hand. Dad was a very social person; he and Mom loved to dance at whatever function they were at. Dad also had a keen interest in history and geography. As a result of his having to leave school early, to help with his parent’s family farm, he went back to University at the age of 65 to continue with his studies. Over the years, Mom and Dad were also very blessed in being able to travel the world over; making many friends in their journeys.

In 2001 Mom and Dad moved from their life-long home in St Andrews to retire to a life lease condo (MORI) in West St. Paul. Here is where Dad remained living, as independent as he could, until his passing.

As per Dad's wishes cremation has already taken place. Both Prayers and Mass will be held at St. Theresa's Church, 3597 Main Street in West St. Paul, Father David Kowalski officiating. Prayers will be held on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at 10:30 a.m., with the Eulogy immediately following. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dad's memory to St. Theresa's Church or to a charity of one's choice.

We wish to THANK: All of Dad's wonderful, caring, neighbours at MORI, for always looking out for our father. As they said, he may be our Dad but he was "their George", a true gentleman! To the gals at Middlechurch Home Seniors Day Program, who had such a special rapport with Dad. To Dad's compassionate Homecare workers; he really thought highly of you. To the many workers at Middlechurch Home, who our Dad got to know very well, while Mom was living there. Dad would visit Mom, many, many times a day. The employees nicked-named them "the love birds" (as they were always holding hands). To this day, the staff stayed close to Dad with their friendship and looked out for him when he still came over to get a hair-cut, other appointments or to attend Mass. To Dad's doctors at Kildonan Medical Centre who saw to keeping Dad as fit as possible. Finally to the medical team at Seven Oaks Emergency and those on the 5th Floor, Unit 5, for their tender care of our precious Father, especially over these last difficult days of his life.

Dad, We love you more than words can say and your passing leaves a hole in our hearts. You not only were the Patriarch of the Schreyer Family but you were held in high esteem by all who knew you. The Legacy you leave us is in the Faith you gave us; in the Love you showed us and in the Kinship, Service and Respect you gave to everyone you met. We Thank God for the Blessing of your long and healthy life with us. You are finally in your Heavenly Home, together at last with Mom; no doubt listening (in person) to Lawrence Welk and probably dancing up a storm - "So goodnight, sleep tight... until we meet again!"
