Bernhard (Bernie) Emil Gruhle

It is with pure sadness that the family of Bernhard Emil Gruhle announces his peaceful passing on April 10, 2017, at the age of 63.

Bernie leaves to mourn his passing his daughter Samantha (Tyler); mother Maria; brother Ernst; sister-in-law Sherry; his two nieces Stephanie and Alyson (Jarred); and many uncles, aunts, cousins and dear friends. He is now reunited with his precious daughter Sydni; father Herbert; and many other family members that meant so much to him.

Bernie was a skilled and determined man that put his heart and soul into everything. Relationships were important to him. He treated friends and family as precious commodities, never taking any for granted.

He worked over 45 years as a bricklayer. His love and passion for the trade was very evident in his final product. A drive through the city or even the province was like a guided tour of all the jobs he had worked on.

Bernie loved watching and studying hockey, football, and most especially baseball. He loved to participate in hockey and football pools. A day was not complete without a daily sports update call from Bernie.

He loved desserts and always had chocolate and Twizzlers on hand. He was an avid puzzler, always working on a jigsaw, with a Sudoku close by. Bernie loved to watch movies, often PVR’ing his favorites so that he could watch them again with his family.

Bernie worked hard at confronting his grief and loss during the years after losing his dearest daughter Sydni. He was honest and faced each day with courage and a desire to live an honest life. Bernie never sugar coated anything; he told it like it was.

The family would like to thank the staff at CancerCare Manitoba for the excellent care given to Bernie, especially Dr. Grenier, Dr. Kakamanu, and their staff. Also the staff at HSC GD2 orthopedic for their kind and compassionate care during the last week.

Memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday April 17, 2017, at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street, West St. Paul, MB.

In lieu of flowers the family would be grateful for donations to CancerCare Manitoba or the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenedenmemorial.ca
