Alex Ozunko
April 1, 1922 – November 29, 2014

Our Dad, Grandfather, Great Grandfather Alex passed away peacefully on November 29, 2014 at the age of 92 years with his family at his side.

Dad was born on April 1, 1922 to Xania and Dmytro Ozunko. At the age of 8, Dad’s mother passed away. In 1946 Alex met and married Anne and went on to have 62 years of marriage and four children.

Dad will be lovingly remember by his children Linda (Wayne), Wayne (Marcella), Derek (Arleen), and Donna (Malcolm), as well as his grandchildren Nathaniel, Megan, Brittany, Justin, Kristofer (Tara), Karen (Tobi), and Sharen (Norman) and his great grandchildren Jaye, Kane, and Lucas. He will also be sadly missed by other extended family and friends.

Dad was predeceased by his wife Anne in 2008, his father and mother, Dmytro and Xania, brothers Harry (Ruthie), Mitch (Marie), sister Ann (William) and step-brothers Roy (Julie) and Edward.

Dad served in the army as a Corporal during WWII. He worked at the Canadian Pacific Railway until his retirement in 1984. He was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 141.

The Depression of the 30’s, World War II and Dad’s childhood shaped him into a man with strength and resourcefulness. Dad always believed that a dollar was worth much and saving for a rainy day was very important. He would always have a pocket of silver dollars that he would hand out to his grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Dad was blessed with good health until this last year when his health began to fail. After Mom passed away, Dad moved into Amber Meadows Retirement Living and enjoyed six years there. Most recently Dad had been at Seven Oaks Hospital.

Our family wishes to thank Dr.’s Patel and Dhanjal for their years of care. Thank you to the nurses and care workers on the 5th floor, Unit 6 at Seven Oaks Hospital. Dad’s last stay was met with care and much kindness.

Flowers are gratefully declined. Charitable donations can be made to the Manitoba Lung Association and Canadian Blood Services. Both charities were important to Alex. Both of our parents were avid walkers and immensely enjoyed their daily walks around Kildonan Park. In their memory, a park bench will be placed in the flower garden.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 12, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street. Interment will follow at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. A gathering of family and friends will be held in the Glen Eden Reception Centre.

“Rest in peace Dad. Always loved by your family.”

Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenedenmemorial.ca

Glen Eden Funeral Home & Cemetery
204-338-7111
